Why Just Assessing The Foot May Not Be Enough
Plantar fasciitis can be influenced by more than what is happening at the painful area. Factors such as activity levels, strength, mobility, walking patterns and the body's capacity to manage load may all be relevant.
Some treatments can provide useful symptom relief. However, when used alone, they may not consider all the factors contributing to an individual's condition.
Orthotics & Cushioning
May reduce discomfort and provide additional support. However, when used alone, they do not actively build strength, mobility or load tolerance.
Rest & Inactivity
Temporarily reducing aggravating activities may help settle symptoms. Prolonged rest alone, however, may not prepare the foot and body for a comfortable return to normal activity.
Stretching Alone
May improve flexibility and provide relief for some people. However, stretching alone may not address other relevant factors such as strength, movement and load tolerance.
Shockwave & Injections
May help manage symptoms in appropriate cases. However, these treatments do not themselves assess or retrain how the foot and the rest of the body manage movement and load.
How the Method Is Structured
People may use combinations of rest, stretching, orthoses, exercise, medication or other treatments. The Plantar Fascia Method uses assessment findings to help determine which strategies may be appropriate and when.
- Considers factors that may be contributing to plantar fascia load.
- Assesses the foot, ankle and other relevant movement and strength factors.
- Adapts the management plan to the individual's findings and current presentation.
The Plantar Fascia Method Roadmap
A 3-stage framework for plantar fasciitis
The roadmap illustrates how management may be structured. The stages, strategies and time required vary according to the individual's presentation, response and goals.
Initial Stage
(Pain Relief Focus)
- Discuss strategies for managing pain and stiffness
- Temporarily modify load where appropriate
- Taping techniques
- Muscle releasing
- Modify activities and habits that may be aggravating symptoms
Rehabilitation
(Restore Function)
- Improve mobility of feet, ankles and hips
- Address relevant strength deficits where identified
- Re-introduce load and monitor/manage this
- Specific targeted exercises for your body
- Pain tracking
Maintenance
(& Optimisation)
- Develop a manageable long-term exercise plan
- Discuss footwear options where relevant
- Gradually return to preferred activities
- Develop strategies for managing future symptom flare-ups

About Us
